Wildlife
Vancouver Island is home to some of the most diverse and fascinating wildlife in Canada.
If you're lucky you may glimpse black bears foraging along rivers and forests edges, orcas patrolling the Salish Sea, and sea lions relaxing on sun drenched rocks.
Vancouver Island is also home to the elusive Vancouver Island Marmot, Canada’s most endangered mammal.
This rich biodiversity makes Vancouver Island a paradise for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts alike.
The island has the densest population of cougars in the whole of Canada. Along with mega fauna, such as Roosevelt Elk, smaller animals such as racoons, river otters and mink can be seen among the shore lines.
Please do not feed or approach wildlife. Remember: a fed bear is a dead bear.
Approaching and attempting to feed wildlife can curb their natural fear of us leading to unwanted interactions and often the animals death.
